Google Goggles is the first functioning system of its type, and according to user feedback it actually works well. The purpose of Google Goggles is to simplify searching while delivering accurate data in a timely fashion. To search using the app users must simply point their iPhone or iPod Touch camera at the subject in question and let Google do the rest. Using image recognition software Google claims the visual search should be able to decode what you are looking at and give you information that is relevant to it.
Apple users have been awaiting the release of Goggles for quite some time; largely because Google announced previously it would be available soon. Thanks to some conflict between Google and Apple the app was not approved for the iTunes marketplace; meaning it would not be available. Many analysts agree that the release of Google Goggles clearly shows that the relationship between the two companies has improved over the past month; as a result more Google products will likely be released for the iPod Touch and iPhone.
Another app released this week for iPhone and iPod Touch is the Netflix app. Thanks to the app Netflix subscribers will now be able to stream movies and TV shows directly to their portable device. Critics claim the image quality is sub-par for the system; though Netflix is already reporting large download numbers for the app.
