Noicy SunChips compostable bags retracted

Although Frito Lay made a valiant effort when they unveiled their new compostable SunChips bags, it appears that the consumer won the fight. The new bags were incredibly noisy when used, and many customers made complaints about the interruption.

The new bags have only been on shelves for eighteen months, but the company recently announced that they will be pulling them from the shelves and replacing them with the old model. However, the Original flavor SunChips will still be packaged in the compostable bag, in an effort to show that Frito Lay truly cares about the environment and making a difference.

The company has said they will continue to try and develop a new generation of bags that are still eco-friendly, but are much less noisy. Aurora Gonzalez is the spokesman for Frito-Lay, and she said that the company did recognize that noise could be an overwhelming factor in whether or not people would choose to buy the product. She also said that she believes a new bag can be manufactured, and that they are excited to get to work on it.

There are 30 million bags of SunChips that are manufactured by Frito Lay in just a single week. Beginning shortly, all of those bags will begin to transition back to their old packaging, except of course, for the Original flavor.

Although it took four years to develop the original compostable bags, Gonzalez says that she has high hopes that the second generation of bags won’t take quite so much time to develop. However, she also said that new inventions do take time, so consumers shouldn’t be expecting a brand new change right away. Gonzalez also added that they had a lot of positive feedback about the green initiative. The bags will be out of production by mid-October.
